Changes to Product IDs
April 4, 2017
Product IDs are in the process of being modified to include more forms. While old product IDs are still available new Product IDs will start with 2 letters to identify the form.
[ Crucible Liner = CL, Conical Insert = CI, Ingot = IN, Granules = GR, Pieces = GP, Pellets = TP, Splatters = TS, Shots = SH, Powder = PO, Rod = RO, Sputtering Target = SP, Foil = FO, Ring = RC, Bonding Service = BS, Beads = BE, Cylinder = CY, Aggregate/Lump = AL, Delta Target = DT, Wire = WR, Endura Target = ET, Oval Target = OT, Wafer = WA, Liquid = LQ, Boat = BT, Crucible = CR, Crystal Bar = CB, Crystalline Pieces = CP, Disk = DK, Flakes = FL, Slugs = SL]
Reference to old IDs in POs will be accepted.
LTS Intranet Overhaul
March 29, 2016
The internal database, catalog search, and purchasing system has been completely overhauled. New features include shopping cart and favorites, tagging for applications and characteristics, hierarchical listings by chemical, and inter-product recommendations. Security upgrades include SSL certificate, salted hashing of passwords with bcrypt, injection and xss safeguards. There are also speed upgrades and a restyled interface.
Cylindrical Hot Press, Twenty Inch Circular, and Lithium Ion Chemicals
August 20, 2015
Most of our sputter targets in the past have been made in flat circular shape via melting (metals) or hot press (ceramics). Customers sometimes ask us for a different type of target geometry - long cylindrical targets that rotate in the system to increase utilization and throughput. They are produced on the outside of a backing tube which mounted on a rotating rod in the system. These type of targets are often made by thermal spray.
While we have made some of these targets in the past, our production facilities were not equipped to make them on a consistent basis. Thermal spray based production results in different practical issues and generally results in less dense target material than hot press based production. And of course the different geometry requires different machines.
LTS has installed and is currently testing a state-of-the-art hot press machine capable of hot pressing cylindrical targets up to 10 inches long - longer specifications will be accommodated by multiple sections. Target production for our customers is expected to be online soon (mid-september). These targets will be more dense than our competitors', lower-cost, and will be available in practically any chemistry that we currently offer as HP or VIM-HP circular targets.
Not only that, we will also be capable of up to 20" diameter circular targets
P.S. Li-ion battery chemicals have been popular lately. Check out Products/Battery Chemicals for more info.
Oxidane
Apr 1, 2015
Today marks the unveiling of our most sophisticated chemical yet, Oxidane. Oxidane, also called Dihydrogen monoxide, is an important chemical that has applications in practically every industry on earth, including electronics, optics, mechanical systems, and even biological processes.
We produce this in cube-shaped ingots roughly 30 mm x 35 mm x 30 mm and sputtering targets of any size. It has to be kept on ice as it has a melting point slightly below room temperature (Tm = 89 μ°C).

UV Scandium Oxide Compounds
Mar 31, 2015
Scandium oxide is a high laser damage threshold optical coating material for use in UV laser applications at 337 nm and 248 nm. It has a LDT of >6 J/cm2 as well a moderately high index of refraction of ~1.8 at 550 nm. It is durable and has good adhesion promotion.
These properties make Sc2O3 a valuable antireflection / high-reflection and multilayer coatings material for ultraviolet applications as well as visible and infrared.
Unfortunately, due to its ores’ rarity, scandium oxide is also very expensive.
For this reason, LTS has developed scandates with similar or better optical properties that are cheaper and more accessible to the medium budget user. These are based on compounding scandium oxide with other rare earth oxides to form ternary compounds with less than half the scandium content but equivalent optical properties, including higher density and refractive index.
Organometallic Rare Earths
Mar 12, 2015
New to our production line is a group of organometallic compounds such as Yttrium 2-ethyl hexanoate and Europium oxalate. These are complex organic molecules bonded with a large central trivalent rare earth metal ion.
We are also expanding production of rare earth phosphates, nitrates, carbonates, and sulfates. Send us a quote request and we'll be happy to cook up some material for you.
Chalcogenide Glasses at Photonics West
Feb 16, 2015
We showed off our brand new R&D targets at Photonics West OPTO last week. They were quite a hit. A few other companies are looking into these materials, called semiconducing chalcogenide glasses (composition ~ Se, Te, Ge, As), but when we mentioned our 18" dia targets, their eyes popped. I expect these materials to be in high demand this year.
New website
Jan 1, 2015
This month we are rolling out our new website here at lrli.us.com. The layout has been revamped and the front page features a parallax scrolling design. In addition to the aesthetics, the content is getting an overhaul as well.
We will be using this new site as a launchpad for a more aggressive sales strategy. Starting in 2015, we will be opening up our product line to reach end users, providing smaller quantity shipments and increasing visibility.
Happy new year from your friends at LTS!
